MARGARET PROUDFOOT
Profile
Having trained in both sculpture & printmaking Margaret has a strong affinity with, seemingly, fragile materials, particularly paper. Maps have become central to her work.
As well as investigating the selective nature of cartography, she explores the boundaries between 2 and 3 dimensions. Her dissections of city maps have a lace-like quality. The shadows thrown by strong lighting are integral, emphasising the delicacy of the object, as it floats in shallow space.
Work
Long established at
Clockwork Studios, Margaret has taught at Camberwell and Winchester Art
Colleges and at the University of Hertfordshire.
She has work in
various collections, including The Gibberd Sculpture Garden. She has
also worked to commission for BT, Swarovski, Paintings in Hospitals,
and has many private clients.
Exhibitions
Margaret Proudfoot has exhibited widely, with solo shows in London, Windsor and Kent.
Current and recent group exhibitions include; Pushing Print in Margate, Metropolis at The Royal British Society of Sculptors and Lines of Desire at Oriel Davies Gallery. She has shown work in The Map is not the Territory series of exhibitions at England & Co, and in 2007 she was shortlisted for the Jerwood Drawing Prize.
